Cleveland State Women's Tennis Falls In #HLTennis Championship
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Cleveland State women's tennis team's 2023 season came to an end Sunday, as the Vikings dropped a hard-fought 4-3 match against top-seeded Youngstown State in the Horizon League Championship match.
 
The Vikings were making their fifth championship match appearance in program history.
 
Cleveland State picked up all three points on singles courts Sunday, with Bethany Yauch, Tereze Vevere and Filippa Frogner earning wins.
 
After dropping the doubles point and falling behind 2-0 to begin singles play, the Vikings responded with a 6-4, 6-0 victory from Yauch at No. 2 singles to put the score at 2-1 YSU.
 
The Vikings were then able to even the match at 2-2 when Vevere notched a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. With the win, Vevere has a team-best 23 wins on the season and is tied for eighth on the CSU Single-Season wins list.
 
YSU picked up a win at No. 5 singles then, before Frogner answered with a 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(4) victory at No. 6 singles to knot the match once again at 3-3.
 
The Penguins then clinched the match with a win at No. 4 singles, closing out the 4-3 decision.
 
Cleveland State finished the year with a 15-8 overall record.
