Cleveland State Women's Tennis Earns 4-2 Victory Over Chicago State In #HLTennis Semifinals
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up a 4-2 victory over Chicago State in the Horizon League Semifinals Saturday, earning a spot in Sunday's #HLTennis Championship Match.
 
Sunday's appearance in the title match will be the fifth in program history.
 
Cleveland State opened the match by battling for the early doubles point, picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Filippa Frogner and Selma Tounsi earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot, while Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz remained perfect against league opponents this season with a 7-6(4) win at No. 3 doubles.
 
Chicago State then evened the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 5 singles, before Sima Heren responded with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot to give Cleveland State a 2-1 advantage.
 
The Cougars were once again able to even the match at 2-2 with a win at No. 3 singles, before Bethany Yauch earned a 6-4, 7-6(5) win at the No. 2 spot to put the Vikings back on top 3-2.
 
Cleveland State's clinching point came from #HLTennis Player of the Year Oihane Vicario at the top of the lineup then, as Vicario battled for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win to send the Vikings to the championship match. The win marked Vicario's 20th singles win of the season, making her the third Viking to reach the plateau this year.

The Vikings will now face top-seeded Youngstown State in the 2023 Horizon League Championship match at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 30.
