Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Picks Up 6-1 Victory Over Oakland

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season slate Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory over Oakland. With the win, the Vikings finish regular season play at 14-7 overall and 5-1 in Horizon League play.

The Vikings were able to earn the early 1-0 advantage following doubles play, as a 6-2 win at the top of the lineup from Bethany Yauch/Sima Heren and a 6-1 victory from Tereze Vevere/Ella Franz at the No. 3 spot clinched the doubles point.

With their win at No. 3 doubles, Vevere and Franz improved to a team-best 15-3 on the year, and finished regular season play perfect against #HLTennis opponents at 5-0.

Oihane Vicario quickly gave the Vikings a 2-0 advantage to begin singles play, as a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top of the lineup capped off a perfect 6-0 #HLTennis slate for Vicario.

Heren then gave Cleveland State a 3-0 edge with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, before Vevere (6-4, 6-0) and Filippa Frogner (6-2, 6-1) picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively, to clinch the match and put the score at 5-0 Vikings.

With her win at No. 3 singles, Vevere now has a team-best 22 singles wins on the year.

The final singles point of the day came from Yauch at the No. 2 spot then, as she notched a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0(4) victory for her 20th singles win of the year.

Cleveland State will return to action at the 2023 #HLTennis Tournament next weekend, beginning with a semifinal match on Saturday, April 29 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
