Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Travels To IUPUI & Northern Kentucky

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue its Horizon League slate on the road this weekend, traveling to IUPUI and Northern Kentucky for a pair of matches.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings picked up back-to-back wins against Milwaukee (6-1) and Chicago State (6-1), improving to 11-7 on the season and 2-1 in #HLTennis play. 

The #HLTennis Slate
This weekend's matches at IUPUI and Northern Kentucky will be the final road matches of the regular season for the Vikings, as Cleveland State stands at 2-1 at the halfway point of league play. Cleveland State's regular season finale will be next weekend, when the Vikings host Oakland at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on Saturday, April 22. 

Vicario Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week
For the third time this season sophomore Oihane Vicario was named the #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week, earning the accolade after going 2-0 at the top of the lineup against Milwaukee and Chicago State. Vicario, who stands at 16-14 overall this season, remained perfect in league play (3-0) with the two wins last weekend, while she also extended her current singles win streak to four straight matches. 

Yauch Records 50th Career Singles Victory
After picking up a pair of wins against Milwaukee and Chicago State last weekend, Bethany Yauch recorded the 50th singles win of her collegiate career, ending the weekend right on the number. Yauch, who owns a 17-13 record on the season, became the 17th Viking all-time to eclipse the 50-win milestone and the first since Blanche Lenoan (2016-20). 

Vevere Notches 20th Singles Win
With a three-set victory against Milwaukee last weekend Tereze Vevere became the first Viking to reach 20 wins on the season, entering the weekend with a 20-11 overall record. This marks the second straight 20-win campaign for Vevere, as she finished her freshman campaign standing at 20-13. 

Vikings With The Doubles Point
So far this season Cleveland State has earned the early doubles point in 13 of its 16 matches, including picking up the early 1-0 advantage in all three of its Horizon League matches. Three Viking tandems have reached double-digit wins on the year, including Ella Franz/Tereze Vevere and Sima Heren/Bethany Yauch who have 12 wins on the season, while they both stand at 2-0 in #HLTennis matches. 

Looking Ahead
Cleveland State is battling for seeding position in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament, which will take place in Ann Arbor, Mich. First Round matches are slated for Friday, April 28, with Semifinals on Saturday, April 29 and the Championship match scheduled for Sunday, April 30 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
