Yauch Notches 50th Career Singles Win As Vikings Earn 4-3 Victory Over Chicago State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team closed out the weekend with a win on Saturday, picking up a 4-3 victory over Chicago State. With the win, the Vikings are now 11-7 overall this year and 2-1 in Horizon League play.

For the third straight match the Vikings were able to get out to the early 1-0 lead after doubles play, as matching 6-2 wins at the top two spots gave Cleveland State the doubles point. Bethany Yauch and Sima Heren earned the win at No. 1 doubles, while Filippa Frogner and Oihane Vicario picked up the win at the No. 2 spot.

Heren quickly added to Cleveland State's lead to begin singles play then, as she earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles to improve to 13-5 this spring.

Yauch then notched her 50th career singles win to give the Vikings a 3-0 advantage, posting a 6-1, 7-6(4) win at No. 3 singles against the Cougars. The win put Yauch at 17-13 overall this season, while she becomes the 17th Viking all-time to reach the 50-win milestone.

After Chicago State earned a win at No. 5 singles, Vicario clinched the match for the Vikings at the top of the lineup, picking up a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory. Saturday's win improved Vicario to 11-7 this spring, and kept her perfect in #HLTennis action (3-0).

The Cougars then closed out the match picking up wins on the final two singles courts to put the final score at 4-3, Cleveland State.

The Vikings will return to the road next weekend, traveling to IUPUI on Saturday, Aril 15 and Northern Kentucky on Sunday, April 16.
