Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Earns 6-1 Victory Over Milwaukee

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team continued Horizon League play in the friendly confines of the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion Friday, picking up a 6-1 victory over Milwaukee. With the win, the Vikings are now 10-7 overall this season and 1-1 in league play.

For the second straight match in #HLTennis play the Vikings were able to pick up the doubles point, getting matching 6-3 wins from Filippa Frogner/Selma Tounsi at No. 2 doubles and Tereze Vevere/Ella Franz at No. 3 doubles.

Cleveland State extended its lead at the start of singles play then, as Sima Heren picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 spot, before Oihane Vicario earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at the top of the lineup to put the Vikings up 3-0.

With her win at No. 1 singles, Vicario remained perfect in Horizon League play this season, improving to 2-0 against #HLTennis opponents.

Bethany Yauch clinched the match for the Vikings then, picking up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, marking the 49th singles win of her career.

After Milwaukee was able to pick up a win at No. 5 singles, the Vikings responded with wins on the final two courts, as Frogner picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles and Vevere battled for a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0(7) victory at the No. 2 spot.

With her win at No. 2 singles, Vevere notched her 20th singles win of the year – the first Viking to reach the 20-win plateau this season.

The Vikings will close out the weekend homestand tomorrow (Saturday, April 8), hosting Chicago State at 10:00 a.m.
