Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Picks Up 4-3 Victory At Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Cleveland State women's tennis team got back in the win column Friday afternoon, picking up a thrilling 4-3 victory at Buffalo. With the win, the Vikings improve to 6-5 on the year, while it also marked the program's first win over the Bulls.

"What a match! We got back to playing some good doubles today, and we were able to use quick wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the early advantage," head coach Frank Polito said. "Oihane played a great match to get a quality win for us at the top of the lineup, while Filippa battled back for a great win on her court, setting up Sima for the clinching point. Sima was able to control play throughout the final set of her match, serving it out for the victory!"

The Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point Friday, with Bethany Yauch and Sima Heren earning a 6-3 win at the top of the lineup and Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz notching a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot. Vevere and Franz now have a team-best 9-2 record this season, while Yauch and Heren improved to 7-4 on the year.

Buffalo responded with the first two singles wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles then, before Oihane Vicario evened the match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the top of the lineup.

The Bulls were then able to gain a 3-2 edge with a win at No. 2 singles, while Filippa Frogner once again tied the match at 3-3 with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 spot.

Cleveland State's clinching point came at No. 4 singles, as Heren battled for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory to capture the 4-3 win for the Vikings.

Cleveland State will be back in action tomorrow (Saturday, February 25), traveling to St. Bonaventure for a 10:00 a.m. match.
