Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Comes Up Short Against Ball State, 5-2

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened the weekend by hosting Ball State Friday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 match against the Cardinals.

"This was a tough match for us today against a really good team and defending MAC Champion in Ball State," head coach Frank Polito said. "Once again, we played really well in doubles with Beth and Sima setting the tone and then Filippa serving it out to clinch the point. In singles, Beth was able to battle back from being down 1-5 in the first set, while we dropped a few three-setters despite some good fight on all of the singles courts."

For the eighth time this season, the Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point, as they have now gotten out to the 1-0 lead in all of their matches this spring. Cleveland State's No. 1 duo of Bethany Yauch and Sima Heren picked up a 6-1 win, while Selma Tounsi and Filippa Frogner earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot.

With their wins, both duos improved to 5-2 during dual match play.

Cleveland State's second point came at No. 2 singles, as Yauch earned a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory. The win marked her team-best 13th singles victory of the season, as she is now tied for the team-lead with a 6-2 mark this spring.

The Vikings will continue their spring season on Sunday, February 12, traveling to Western Michigan.
