Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Continues Spring Slate Against Ball State & Western Michigan

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue its 2023 spring slate this weekend, hosting Ball State on Friday, February 10 before traveling to Western Michigan on Sunday, February 12.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings split their matches against Bowling Green and Butler, picking up a 7-0 sweep over the Falcons before dropping a hard-fought 4-3 decision against the Bulldogs. The Vikings finished the third week of the spring season standing at 5-2 overall, while the loss against Butler was the first loss inside the MMTP for Cleveland State this season.  

Heren Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week
Earlier this week Sima Heren was recognized by the Horizon League, as she was named the #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week. Last time out, Heren went 2-0 at No. 4 singles, winning both of her matches in straight sets against Bowling Green (6-3, 6-1) and Butler (6-2, 6-3). With the wins, Heren extended her singles win streak to five straight matches, and now owns a team-best 6-1 record this spring.  

…Third Straight #HLTennis Honor for the Vikings
Sima Heren marked the third Viking to earn Singles Player of the Week honors this season, as Cleveland State has picked up the award in each of the first three weeks of the spring campaign. Heren joins Bethany Yauch and Oihane Vicario has Singles Player of the Week honorees this season, while Filippa Frogner and Selma Tounsi were also recognized as the Doubles Team of the Week earlier this year.  

Vikings With The Doubles Point
So far this spring, Cleveland State has earned the doubles point in all seven of its matches. Entering the third week of dual match play, Ella Franz and Tereze Vevere own a perfect 5-0 record this spring, while Filippa Frogner/Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch/Sima Heren are both 4-2 in dual matches. Overall, Cleveland State has won 15 of its 19 completed doubles matches on the year. 

Yauch Closing In On 50 Career Singles Wins
Entering the weekend, junior Bethany Yauch is closing in on the 50-win milestone, currently standing at 45 singles wins. Yauch, who is 12-7 overall this year and 5-2 this spring, would become the 17th Viking to reach the 50-win milestone, and the first since Blanche Lenoan in 2020.
