Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Picks Up 7-0 Victory At Bowling Green

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up its fourth straight win Friday, earning a 7-0 sweep at Bowling Green. With the win, the Vikings are now 5-1 on the young season.

"This was a great team win today, we were able to keep our momentum going in doubles, while also having a solid day in singles," head coach Frank Polito said. "I have to give Oihane a lot of credit for her win today, as she was down 2-6, 0-4 against a very tough opponent, but she never gave up and fought all the way back to get the win. Selma also had to fight through some adversity today, and was able to keep focused and pull out a come-from-behind win for us."

Once again, the Vikings were able to put the first point on the board, earning the doubles point for the sixth time this season. Cleveland State picked up matching 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles from Bethany Yauch/Sima Heren and Oihane Vicario/Tereze Vevere, respectively. Friday marked the first time that Vicario was appearing in the doubles lineup this spring.

Cleveland State then carried its momentum into singles play, as Vevere cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles to give the Vikings a 2-0 advantage, before Heren put the score at 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot.

Friday's clinching point came from Filippa Frogner then, as she earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles.

Cleveland State was also able to get singles wins from Vicario (No. 1), Yauch (No. 2) and Selma Tounsi (No. 5).

The Vikings will look to keep their win streak going on Sunday, February 5, when they host Butler inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
