Vicario Named #HLTennis Singles Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping the Cleveland State women's tennis team to a trio of wins last weekend, sophomore Oihane Vicario has been named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. This marks the second straight week that the Vikings have claimed Singles Player of the Week honors, while it marks the sixth time in Vicario's career that she has earned the accolade.

Last time out, Vicario and the Vikings picked up three straight wins against Duquesne (6-1), Eastern Michigan (4-3) and Ashland (7-0), improving to 4-1 on the young season. In addition, Cleveland State owns a perfect 3-0 record inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion this year.

"Oihane played some tough and disciplined tennis last weekend, and it's great that she is being recognized for her hard work on the court," head coach Frank Polito said. "She did a nice job playing under pressure, as she was the final court on in the EMU match, which came down to the final point. I'm looking forward to her continued improvement as we get further into the spring season."

Vicario played all three matches at the top of the singles lineup for the Vikings, picking up a trio of wins to improve to 3-2 this spring.

Vicario opened the week with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at Duquesne, and followed that up with a three-set 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 decision against Eastern Michigan that clinched the 4-3 victory for the Vikings. She also notched a 6-3, 6-2 win against Ashland to close out the weekend.
