Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Sweeps Sunday Doubleheader

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up two wins inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion Sunday, earning a 4-3 victory against Eastern Michigan and a 7-0 win against Ashland. With the wins, the Vikings are now 4-1 on the spring and 3-0 inside the MMTP.

In the first match of the day, the Vikings battled for a 4-3 victory over Eastern Michigan, picking up the doubles point and three singles wins from Oihane Vicario, Bethany Yauch and Sima Heren.

In doubles, Cleveland State's No. 3 tandem of Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz earned a 6-4 victory, while Yauch and Heren posted a matching 6-4 win at the top of the lineup.

Heren then gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles, before Eastern Michigan was able to pick up a win at the No. 6 spot.

The Vikings responded with a win from Yauch at No. 2 singles, as she posted a 6-4, 7-5 decision, before the Eagles once again answered with wins at No. 5 and No. 3 singles to tie the match at 3-3.

Cleveland State's clinching point came at the top of the lineup then, as Vicario picked up a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory to help the Vikings capture the 4-3 team win.

During Sunday's second match, the Vikings were once again able to pick up the early doubles point, and have now won the doubles point in all five matches this spring.

At No. 2 doubles the Vikings earned a 6-0 win from Ella Franz and Tereze Vevere, while Fillippa Frogner and Avery Durham earned a 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot.

Vevere quickly gave the Vikings a 2-0 advantage after the start of singles play then, as she posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles, before Sima Heren put the Vikings up 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot.

Oihane Vicario then picked up Cleveland State's clinching point, as she earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top of the lineup.

Cleveland State also got singles wins from Frogner at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-1), Durham at the No. 6 spot (6-2, 6-1) and Bethany Yauch at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-3).

Durham was making her Cleveland State debut on Sunday, after transferring in for the spring semester.

The Vikings will return to action with a pair of matches next weekend, traveling to Bowling Green on Friday, February 3 and hosting Butler on Sunday, February 5.
