Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Earns 6-1 Victory At Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team got back in the win column Friday evening, picking up a 6-1 victory at Duquesne. With the win, the Vikings are now 2-1 on the young season.

For the third straight match the Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point, earning wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz earned a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles, while Selma Tounsi and Filippa Frogner once again clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot.

Both CSU doubles teams improved to 3-0 during the spring season, while Vevere and Franz improved to 6-0 overall this season.

Cleveland State then carried its momentum into singles play, picking up wins on five of the six singles courts. Vevere and Sima Heren posted the first two singles points for the Vikings, Vevere with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles and Heren with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot.

The clinching point then came from Tounsi at No. 5 singles, as she earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

In addition, the Vikings also got wins from Oihane Vicario at the top of the singles lineup (6-4, 7-5), and Bethany Yauch at the No. 2 spot (6-3, 4-6, 1-0(10)).

Next up for Cleveland State will be a pair of matches inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on Sunday, January 29, as the Vikings will host Eastern Michigan at 2:00 p.m. and Ashland at 6:00 p.m.
