Cleveland State Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision At Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team closed out its first weekend of dual match play Sunday, dropping a 6-1 contest at Toledo. The Vikings finish the first weekend of the spring slate sitting at 1-1.

"We played some really good doubles today at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Tereze and Ella were able to put together a strong match from start to finish, while Filippa and Selma battled back from being down 2-4 to clinch the doubles point for us with Filippa hitting a great backhand return down the line on deuce point/match point," head coach Frank Polito said.

Cleveland State's lone point of the day came on the doubles courts, as the Vikings were able to pick up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. At No. 2 doubles, Selma and Filippa posted a 6-4 victory, while Tereze and Ella earned a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot.

"Although we were able to get some early momentum by picking up the doubles point, we weren't able to carry that onto the singles courts. We battled hard from start to finish on all courts, but we came up short against a very good Toledo team," Polito said.

Cleveland State will continue its spring schedule next weekend, traveling to Duquesne on Friday, January 27 and hosting Eastern Michigan and Ashland on Sunday, January 29.
