TEMPE, Ariz. – For the ninth straight season the Cleveland State women's tennis team has been honored by the ITA for their academic success, as the Vikings picked up ITA All-Academic Team honors, while six players were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
As a team, the Vikings posted a grade point average of 3.57 for the 2021-22 academic year, earning ITA All-Academic Team honors for the 16th time over the last 19 seasons. Cleveland State was one of four Horizon League teams to pick up the honor this year.
Individually, Klara Mrcela earned her fourth ITA Scholar-Athlete honor, while Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch both picked up their second accolade, and Filippa Frogner, Sima Heren and Tereze Vevere all earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the first time in their careers.
All six individuals posted a 3.60+ GPA for the 2021-22 academic year, while they combined for 10 Cleveland State Dean's List or President's List honors throughout the year.
On the court, the Vikings captured the Horizon League Regular Season championship after posting their first-ever undefeated #HLTennis regular season slate, capturing the regular season crown for the fifth time in program history. Heren and Mrcela both led the Vikings with All-League accolades, as they were both named to the All-League Second Team following the 2022 spring campaign.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.
