Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Remains Perfect In #HLTennis Play With 5-2 Victory At NKU

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team remained perfect in Horizon League play Sunday afternoon, picking up a 5-2 victory at Northern Kentucky. With the win, the Vikings now stand at 10-10 overall this season and 3-0 in #HLTennis play.

"This was another good win for us today, we played well once again in doubles which helped set the tone for the rest of the match," head coach Frank Polito said. "We had some great fight in singles today, with Oihane playing a great second and third set and Klara doing a great job of saving six set points in her second set, while Tereze and Bethany took care of business. Now we have a short turnaround this week, as we prepare for our final homestand against Milwaukee and UIC."

For the third straight match – all three #HLTennis matches – the Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point, with a 6-1 victory from Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch at No. 2 doubles and a 6-2 win from Oihane Vicario and Tereze Vevere at the No. 3 spot.

With their win at No. 2 doubles, Tounsi and Yauch now stand at 11-7 this spring and 12-9 on the year – both of which marking team-highs.

In singles action, the trio of Klara Mrcela, Vevere and Yauch all remained unbeaten against Horizon League opponents, picking up three of Cleveland State's four singles wins against the Norse.

Mrcela notched a 6-2, 7-6(4) victory at No. 2 singles, while Vevere picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot and Yauch earned a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

Cleveland State's final singles point on the day came at the top of the lineup, as Vicario notched a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Yauch now has a team-best 21 singles wins on the year, while Vevere and Vicario each have 18 victories so far this season.

The Vikings will return to the MMTP for the final homestand of the spring next weekend, hosting Milwaukee on Friday, April 15 and UIC on Saturday, April 16.
