Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Continues Spring Campaign With Trio Of Matches

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue the 2022 spring season with a trio of matches this week, traveling to Eastern Michigan on Thursday, February 10 and hosting Miami (Ohio) and Slippery Rock on Saturday, February 12.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings picked up a 5-2 victory over Duquesne, improving to 4-1 on the season. Cleveland State earned the doubles point for the fourth time this spring, while the Vikings got singles wins from Oihane Vicario, Klara Mrcela, Bethany Yauch, and Tereze Vevere.

Schedule Adjustments
Thursday's match at Eastern Michigan is a rescheduled match from last week, as the Vikings were supposed to face the Eagles on Friday, February 4, but due to the weather conditions throughout the state of Ohio and Michigan the match was postponed. 

COVID Protocols

Vikings At The MMTP
Saturday's matches against Miami (Ohio) and Slippery Rock will be the fifth and sixth matches of a 14-match home slate for the Vikings during the 2022 spring season, as they will be calling the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion home for the seventh year. Since it's opening in 2016, the Vikings have posted a 45-16 record at the MMTP, including a pair of 9-1 campaigns during 2017 and 2019.

#HLTennis Weekly Honors
So far this spring the Vikings have earned two Horizon League Singles Player of the Week honors and two Doubles Team of the Week accolades. Oihane Vicario has picked up both Singles Player of the Week mentions, while the duos of Klara Mrcela/Sima Heren and Selma Tounsi/Bethany Yauch have earned the Doubles Team mentions.

Vicario & Yauch Reach Double-Digit Singles Wins
With their victories against Duquesne last time out, Oihane Vicario and Bethany Yauch both eclipsed the 10-win mark for the season, joining Tereze Vevere with double-digit singles wins on the year. Vevere owns a team-best 11-5 record so far this season, while Vicario and Yauch are both 10-6 on the year.

2022 #HLTennis Preseason Poll
Earlier this season, the Vikings were tabbed to finish third in the highly competitive seven-team Horizon League field, collecting 35 points to finish behind preseason favorite UIC and Youngstown State. This marks the 10th year that the Horizon League has released a preseason poll, with the Vikings selected to finish as a top-three team for the seventh time.
