Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Hosts Duquesne On Sunday

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will continue the 2022 spring season with a single match this weekend, hosting Duquesne on Sunday, February 6.

Vikings At The MMTP
This weekend's match against Duquesne will be the fourth match of a 14-match home slate for the Vikings during the 2022 spring season, as they will be calling the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion home for the seventh year. Since it's opening in 2016, the Vikings have posted a 44-16 record at the MMTP, including a pair of 9-1 campaigns during 2017 and 2019.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings opened the home portion of their 2022 spring campaign with a trio of matches, finishing the weekend with a 2-1 record. Cleveland State picked up wins against Western Michigan (5-2) and St. Bonaventure (7-0) before falling to Big 12 opponent West Virginia (7-0). These three matches marked the first of a 14-match home schedule for the Vikings.

Vicario Picks Up Second Straight #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week Honor
For the second straight week, freshman Oihane Vicario was named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week after posting a 2-1 record at the top of the lineup. Vicario picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory against WMU and a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(8) win against SBU, before dropping a hard-fought three-set match against WVU. So far this spring, Vicario is tied for the team-lead with a 3-1 singles record, while she stands at 9-6 overall this year.

Yauch & Tounsi Earn #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week
Cleveland State swept the Horizon League weekly awards for the second straight time earlier this week, as the No. 2 doubles team of Bethany Yauch and Selma Tounsi was named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week. Yauch and Tounsi went 3-0 last time out, remaining undefeated this spring with a 4-0 mark. The duo posted a 6-3 win over WMU and a 6-2 win over SBU on Saturday, before picking up a 6-3 win against West Virginia on Sunday.

Vevere Reaches Double-Digit Singles Wins
After going 2-1 last weekend, Tereze Vevere became the first Viking to reach double-digit singles wins, as she enters the weekend with a 10-5 overall record. Vevere is tied for the team-lead with a 3-1 singles record so far this spring, and has been playing at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. 

2022 #HLTennis Preseason Poll
Last week, the Vikings were tabbed to finish third in the highly competitive seven-team Horizon League field, collecting 35 points to finish behind preseason favorite UIC and Youngstown State. This marks the 10th year that the Horizon League has released a preseason poll, with the Vikings selected to finish as a top-three team for the seventh time.
