CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will open up the 2022 spring season this weekend, traveling to Dayton for a 2:30 p.m. match on Saturday, January 22.

Saturday's match will be the first of 23 scheduled matches for the Vikings this spring, and the lone road match during the month of January. Cleveland State will have the benefit of playing 10 of its first 12 matches at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion, beginning with the home opener against Western Michigan and St. Bonaventure on Saturday, January 29.

The 2022 spring season will be the first collegiate dual match campaign for the freshmen quartet of Filippa Frogner, Sima Heren, Tereze Vevere, and Oihane Vicario. The Viking roster also features two sophomores in Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch, and a redshirt-senior in Klara Mrcela.

The duo of Tereze Vevere and Bethany Yauch have a team-best 7-4 singles record, while Oihane Vicario owns six singles wins on the year. Selma Tounsi and Sima Heren both have five wins, while Filippa Frogner picked up four wins through the fall campaign.
Vikings Post Strong Semester In The Classroom
With the 2021 Fall Semester in the books, the Vikings posted one of their best semesters in program history, finishing with a 3.64 team GPA for the term. In addition, two Vikings were named to the President's List (Filippa Frogner & Sima Heren), while three Vikings earned a spot on the Dean's List (Selma Tounsi, Tereze Vevere, Bethany Yauch).
Head Coach Frank Polito
Frank Polito is in his fourth year at the hem of the Vikings and his 10th year overall at Cleveland State, owning a 32-26 dual match record as head coach. During Polito's tenure, the Vikings have captured three Regular Season Horizon League titles and have made two #HLTennis Championship Match appearances.
