Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Has Strong Showing On First Day Of Viking Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened play at the Viking Invitational Friday, picking up four singles wins and two doubles victories. This weekend's Viking Invitational marks the fifth year for the event, and the only home tournament for Cleveland State during the fall season.

In singles play, the Vikings picked up all four of their wins against Duquesne, with all four victories coming in straight sets. Oihane Vicario notched a 6-0, 6-3 victory, while Sima Heren posted a 6-4, 6-3 win, Bethany Yauch earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory, and Selma Tounsi picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

With their wins on Friday, Vicario, Heren and Yauch all improved to a team-best 3-1 so far this fall.

In doubles play, the Cleveland State tandems of Oihane Vicario/Sima Heren and Tereze Vevere/Filippa Frogner picked up wins against Milwaukee, Vicario and Heren notching a 6-3 victory and Vevere and Frogner posting a 6-4 win.

Action at the Viking Invitational will continue with one round of singles and two rounds of doubles tomorrow (Saturday, October 16), with play beginning at 10:00 a.m.
