Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Campaign At Eagles Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will kick off the 2021 fall campaign this weekend, competing in the Eagles Invitational hosted by Eastern Michigan. Action will begin on Friday, October 1 and run through Sunday, October 3. 

The Field
Cleveland State will be one of 10 teams competing, joining Findlay, Wayne State, Ball State, Oakland, Northwood, DePaul, Western Michigan, Illinois State, and the host Eagles.

Returning Trio
Cleveland State returns three letterwinners from last year's team, including super senior Klara Mrcela who was named Second Team All-League last season. Joining Mrcela will be sophomores Selma Tounsi and Bethany Yauch. Last year, this trio helped the Vikings to their 11th straight #HLTennis semifinal appearance. 

New Look Vikings | 2021-22 ROSTER
In addition to the three returners, the Vikings will welcome four true freshmen for the 2021-22 campaign; Filippa Frogner, Sima Heren, Tereze Vevere, and Oihane Vicario.

Fall Lineup | 2021-22 SCHEDULE
This weekend's Eagles Invitational will be the first of four scheduled events for the fall, as the Vikings will also participate in the Rocket Invite (October 29-30) and WMU Fall Invite (November 12-14) and host the Viking Invitational (October 15-17).  

Head Coach Frank Polito
The Vikings will be under the direction of head coach Frank Polito who is entering his fourth season at the helm and 10th season overall with the program. During Polito's tenure, the Vikings have captured three Regular Season Horizon League titles and have made two #HLTennis Championship Match appearances.
