Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Earns Eighth Straight ITA Academic Honor

TEMPE, Ariz. – For the eighth straight season the Cleveland State women's tennis team has been honored by the ITA for their academic success, as the Vikings picked up ITA All-Academic Team honors, while all eight players were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

As a team, the Vikings posted a grade point average of 3.89 for the 2020-21 academic year, earning ITA All-Academic Team honors for the 15th time over the last 18 seasons. Cleveland State was one of six Horizon League teams to pick up the honor this year.

Individually, Blanche Lenoan and Kateryna Avram both earned their fifth straight ITA Scholar-Athlete honor, while Klara Mrcela picked up her third accolade and Siân Payne and Gaby Schoenberg both earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the second time in their careers. Also earning ITA Scholar-Athlete honors were Selma Tounsi, Bethany Yauch and Miruna Vasilescu.

All eight Vikings posted a 3.80+ GPA for the 2020-21 academic year, while they combined for nine Cleveland State Dean's List honors throughout the year.

On the court, the Vikings earned a spot in the Horizon League Semifinals for the 11th straight time during the adjusted 2021 campaign, and were led by Horizon League Player of the Year Miruna Vasilescu along with All-League honorees Lenoan and Mrcela. 

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.
