Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Drops 4-3 Contest At Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team had its seven-match win streak come to an end Saturday, as the Vikings dropped a hard fought 4-3 contest at Milwaukee. After Saturday's match, the Vikings now stand at 8-10 on the year and 6-5 in league play.

Despite dropping the early doubles point, the Vikings were able to pick up a win at the No. 2 spot, as Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan earned a 6-2 victory. With their win against the Panthers, Avram and Lenoan picked up their eighth straight win, improving to 14-4 on the year and 9-2 in league matches.

The Vikings were able to even the score at the start of singles play then, as Klara Mrcela gave Cleveland State its first point of the day with a win at No. 3 singles. Mrcela picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory, extending her singles win streak to seven, and improving to 7-4 in league play this year.

The Panthers responded by picking up the next three singles points at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 spots to clinch the match, but Cleveland State was able to put two more points on the board with wins at the top two singles spots.

At No. 2 singles, Lenoan picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Milwaukee's Mayya Perova, improving to 15-3 on the season and 9-2 in Horizon League play. Lenoan's victory on Saturday marked the 60th win of her career, making her one of 12 Vikings all-time with 60+ career wins.

Miruna Vasilescu picked up the final point of the day for the Vikings, earning a 6-4, 6-4 win at the top of the singles lineup against Milwaukee's Greta Carbone to remain perfect in league play at 11-0 and improve to a team-best 16-2 on the year. The win marked Vasilescu's 15th straight-set win of the season, which includes all 11 of her league victories.

The Vikings will close out the regular season tomorrow (Sunday, April 25), with first serve against the Panthers set for 2:00 p.m. EST.
