Vasilescu Picks Up Third Straight #HLTennis Singles Player Of The Week Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping the Cleveland State women's tennis team to a pair of wins against Northern Kentucky last weekend, senior Miruna Vasilescu has been named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week, earning the honor for the third straight week.

Last time out, Vasilescu and the Vikings extended their current win streak to seven straight matches with a pair of wins against Northern Kentucky, improving to 8-9 on the season and 6-4 in league play.

"This is another well deserved honor for Miruna, she continues to play better and better every week," head coach Frank Polito said. "It's tough playing the same person on back-to-back days, and she is doing a great job of handling the matches and taking care of business on the first and second day."

Vasilescu, who is the only league player to earn multiple weekly honors this season, went 2-0 at No. 1 singles against Northern Kentucky, picking up a 6-4, 6-1 win on Saturday and a 6-1, 6-2 win in the weekend finale. With the two wins, she improved to 15-2 overall this season and 10-0 in league play – the only player to be undefeated at the top of the lineup in league matches.

Last weekend's wins against the Norse also extended her current win streak to 13 straight matches, as she hasn't lost since February 19 when the Vikings faced West Virginia.

So far this season, Vasilescu has notched 14 of her 15 wins in straight sets, including all 10 of her Horizon League victories.
