Women’s Tennis Earns Weekend Sweep Over Northern Kentucky

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team extended its win streak to seven straight matches Sunday afternoon, picking up a 6-1 victory against Northern Kentucky.

With the win, the Vikings are now 8-9 overall this season and 6-4 in Horizon League play, while they also remained perfect during the month of April with a 6-0 record.

For the seventh straight match the Vikings picked up the early doubles point, gaining the 1-0 advantage for the second time this weekend. Cleveland State got a 6-1 win from Blanche Lenoan and Kateryna Avram at No. 2 doubles, and a 7-5 win from Miruna Vasilescu and Klara Mrcela at the top of the lineup.

Lenoan and Avram improved their team-best record to 13-4 this season with their win at No. 2 doubles, while they also moved into a tie for sixth place on the CSU Team Doubles Wins List with 23 wins as a tandem.

Vailescu gave the Vikings their first singles point on Sunday, as she extended her singles win streak to 13 straight matches with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top of the lineup. Sunday's win gave her a team-leading 15-2 record on the season, while it also kept her perfect in Horizon League play at 10-0.

Mrecla then gave the Vikings a 3-0 lead after picking up her second win of the weekend at No. 3 singles, posting a 6-3, 6-4 win for her sixth straight victory.

After NKU was able to pick up a win at the No. 6 spot, the Vikings responded with the clinching point at No. 4 singles, as Bethany Yauch earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory to give Cleveland State its third weekend sweep of the season. With the win, Yauch improved to 7-3 against league opponents this season, and extended her singles win streak to seven straight matches.

The Vikings then closed out the match with the final two singles points, as Selma Tounsi earned a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0(10) win at the No. 5 spot and Lenoan posted a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(7) win at No. 2 singles. With the win on Sunday, Lenoan is now 14-3 overall this season and stands at 8-2 in league play.

The Vikings will now close out the regular season next weekend, traveling to Milwaukee for a two-match series on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25.
