Vasilescu Named #HLTennis Singles Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping Cleveland State to a pair of 7-0 sweeps at IUPUI last weekend, women's tennis senior Miruna Vasilescu has been named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. This marks the second straight weekly honor for Vasilescu, as she becomes the first league player to earn multiple singles player of the week honors this season.

Last weekend Vasilescu and the Vikings posted back-to-back 7-0 victories at IUPUI, extending their current win streak to five straight matches, including four straight sweeps.

"This is another well deserved honor for Miruna after her performance at IUPUI last week," head coach Frank Polito said. "All year she has been putting in the extra time and effort during practice and it's great to see her reap the benefits in her matches. She has been a solid player for us all year, and she competes hard every single time she takes the court."

Playing at the top of the singles lineup, Vasilescu posted a pair of straight-set victories against the Jaguars, posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the first match of the weekend and a 6-2, 6-2 win in the series finale. With the wins, Vasilescu extended her current singles win streak to 11 straight matches, while she improved to 13-2 overall this season.

In league play only, Vasilescu owns a perfect 8-0 singles record, and is one of just five league players to be undefeated in regular season #HLTennis matches, but the only to remain perfect at the top of the lineup.

So far this season, Vasilescu has notched 12 of her 13 wins in straight sets, including all eight of her Horizon League victories.
