Vikings Earn Fifth Straight Win With 7-0 Decision At IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team closed out their weekend series at IUPUI Sunday afternoon, picking up a 7-0 victory over the Jaguars. With the win, the Vikings have now won five straight matches, and stand at an even 4-4 in Horizon League action.

Sunday's 7-0 victory marked the fourth straight sweep for the Vikings, as they picked up two against IUPUI and two against Oakland during this stretch.

"This was another nice win for us today, we played well up and down the lineup in doubles and singles," head coach Frank Polito said. "Miruna, Klara, Selma, and Kate really set the tone for us in singles and helped continue our momentum, while Blanche and Beth had to fight for everything during their matches, but they stayed focused and were able to close out their matches with a pair of wins."

Cleveland State picked up the doubles point in Sunday's match with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Blanche Lenoan and Kateryna Avram teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Bethany Yauch and Gaby Schoenberg earned a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot.

Lenoan and Avram are now 11-4 on the season, and in sole possession of eighth place on the CSU Team Doubles Wins List with 21 wins as a tandem.

Miruna Vasilescu gave the Vikings a quick 2-0 lead at the start of singles play, posting a 6-2, 6-2 win for her 11th straight singles win. On the season, Vasilescu owns a team-best 13-2 record, including a perfect 8-0 mark against league opponents.

Selma Tounsi gave Cleveland State a 3-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, before Klara Mrcela clinched the match for the Vikings with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot.

The Vikings were then able to add on wins from Avram at No. 6 singles (6-3, 6-1) and Yauch at the No. 4 spot (7-6(4), 6-4), before Lenoan closed out the match with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.

With her win at No. 2 singles, Lenoan extended her current win streak to seven straight matches, while she now stands at 12-3 on the year.

Cleveland State will return home for the final time during the 2021 campaign next weekend, hosting Northern Kentucky on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18.
