Women’s Tennis Sweeps Weekly #HLTennis Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After picking up a pair of 7-0 sweeps over Oakland last time out, the Cleveland State women's tennis team swept the Horizon League weekly awards, as Miruna Vasilescu was named the Singles Player of the Week and Blanche Lenoan and Kateryna Avram were named the Doubles Team of the Week. This marks the second time this season that the Vikings have picked up weekly accolades from the Horizon League.

Last time out, this trio helped Cleveland State pick up its first league wins of the 2021 campaign, posting back-to-back 7-0 sweeps over Oakland to extend its winstreak over the Golden Grizzlies to 19 straight matches.

"This is a well deserved honor for Miruna and our doubles team of Kate and Blanche, they were definitely a crucial part of our two wins last weekend," head coach Frank Polito said. "Miruna has been solid all year long, so I'm happy that she is getting recognized for all of her hard work. Blanche and Kate have been playing better and better as the season progresses, and I'm looking forward to seeing what is next for the tandem."

Vasilescu posted back-to-back straight-set victories at No. 1 singles last weekend, improving to 6-0 in league play. In the weekend opener Valilescu posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory, and followed that up with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the series finale - with both matches coming against Oakland's Yasmin Glazbrook.

As the only league player to be undefeated at the top of the lineup, Vasilescu owns a team-best 11-2 record on the year and has won nine straight singles matches.

Avram and Lenoan picked up a pair of wins at No. 2 doubles against Oakland, helping the Vikings clinch the doubles point in both matches last weekend. The duo earned a 6-0 victory in Match #1 and a 6-1 victory in Match #2.

With the wins, Avram and Lenoan now stand at 9-4 on the season, while the duo also moved into the top-10 on the CSU Team Doubles Wins List with 19 career victories as a tandem.
