Vikings Post 7-0 Victory Over Oakland

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up its second straight Horizon League victory Sunday, earning a 7-0 win over Oakland.

"This was another good league win for us today, we had a really good weekend and it was a good momentum builder for us," head coach Frank Polito said. "I thought our No. 2 doubles team did a good job today, as they are getting back to playing like they are used to playing. It was nice to see Klara play another solid match – probably her best match of the year – and I'm looking forward to seeing her improvement down the stretch. Bethany and Selma did a good job of gutting through another match today, while Miruna was solid as always. Blanche picked up another tough win today, she played all of the big points really well and helped us get the sweep."

For the second time this weekend the Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point, as Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan posted a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the 1-0 lead for Cleveland State.

With the win, Avram and Lenoan now have a team-best 9-4 record this season, while they are also tied for 10th on the CSU Team Doubles Wins List with 19 victories as a tandem.

The Vikings were able to extend their lead to 2-0 after picking up a default win at No. 6 singles, while Klara Mrcela put the Vikings up 3-0 following a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot.

Cleveland State's clinching point on Sunday came from Bethany Yauch at No. 4 singles then, as she earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory to extend the Vikings' current winstreak to three straight matches.

Miruna Vasilescu added to Cleveland State's lead with a win at the top of the lineup, as she earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory to remain perfect in Horizon League play this season. For the year, Vasilescu owns a team-best 11-2 record.

The Vikings closed out the match with two more wins, picking up their second straight 7-0 sweep. Selma Tounsi posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles, while Lenoan picked up a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0(4) win at the No. 2 spot. Lenoan has now won five straight singles matches, and stands at 10-3 overall this year.

Cleveland State will continue Horizon League play on the road next weekend, traveling to IUPUI for a pair of matches on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11.
