Vikings Return To League Play Against Oakland

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will return to Horizon League action this weekend, hosting Oakland on Saturday, April 3 and Sunday, April 4.

Due to the conditions created by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Cleveland State will not allow spectators at any home matches during the 2021 campaign.

Last Time Out…
Cleveland State took a break from Horizon League play, picking up a 6-1 victory over St. Bonaventure. The Vikings picked up the early doubles point and then got singles wins from Miruna Vasilescu, Blanche Lenoan, Bethany Yauch, Selma Tounsi, and Kateryna Avram

This weekend's matches against Oakland will mark the fifth and sixth of what is scheduled to be an eight-match home slate for the Vikings during the 2021 season, as they will be calling the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion home for the sixth year. Since it's opening in 2016, the Vikings have posted a 38-13 record at the MMTP, including a pair of 9-1 campaigns during 2019 and 2017. 

2021 Horizon League Schedule
This year's Horizon League schedule has had a different look to it, as the Vikings are facing the same opponent in back-to-back matches each week. Cleveland State is scheduled to host two more #HLWTEN series against Oakland and Northern Kentucky, while the Vikings are set to travel to IUPUI and Milwaukee throughout the rest of the regular season. 

Vasilescu Owns Perfect 4-0 Record In #HLTennis Play
Entering the fourth week of Horizon League play, senior Miruna Vasilescu owns a perfect 4-0 record in #HLTennis singles matches – the only player to be undefeated at the No. 1 spot. Vasilescu has picked up all four of her league wins in straight sets, and enters the weekend with a team-best 9-2 record on the season.

Lenoan Notches Third Straight Win Against St. Bonaventure
Last time out, senior Blanche Lenoan picked up her third straight singles win and improved to 8-3 this season – the second most singles wins on the team. This season Lenoan has played at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 spots, and has won five of her last seven matches.

Avram & Lenoan In Doubles Play
Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan got back on the winning track last time out, picking up a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles against St. Bonaventure. On the season, Avram and Lenoan own a team-best 7-4 doubles record, with all 11 matches coming at the No. 2 spot. For their career, the duo owns a 17-5 record, just two wins shy of earning a spot on the CSU Team Doubles Wins List.
