TOLEDO, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team continued its 2021 campaign Friday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 contest at Toledo.
"This was a tough match for us today, Miruna and Blanche found a way to win in singles to lead us, while Miruna and Bethany played a solid doubles match from start to finish," head coach Frank Polito said. "Blanche is playing the best tennis I have seen her play, and I'm excited to see where she can go from here. We will no doubt keep working hard in practice next week to get ready for our match next weekend."
Lenoan earned a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot, staying perfect on the year, while Vasilescu posted a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(8) victory at the top of the lineup.
The win marked Lenoan's 48th career victory, as she is now just two singles wins shy of reaching the 50-win milestone.
Despite dropping the doubles point, Cleveland State's No. 1 team of Miruna Vasilescu and Bethany Yauch earned a 6-3 win at the top of the lineup, improving to 2-0 this season when playing as a tandem. Vasilescu also improved to 3-0 individually in doubles play this year.
The Vikings will return to action at West Virginia next week, facing the Mountaineers at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19.
