Lenoan Stays Perfect On The Season As Vikings Fall At Miami (OH)

HAMILTON, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team continued their 2021 campaign Saturday, as they dropped a 5-2 contest at Miami (OH) in their first road match of the season.

"We came out and competed extremely hard today and really improved our play from last week's season opener," head coach Frank Polito said. "We played a great doubles point to begin the match, and we continued that in singles as we battled hard at all six spots. I'm excited to get back to work this week as we prepare for another tough MAC opponent as we continue our difficult 2021 schedule next weekend."

The Vikings were able to get out to the early 1-0 lead after picking up the doubles point, marking the first time this season that the Vikings earned the early advantage.

Cleveland State got wins at the top two spots, as Miruna Vasilescu and Klara Mrcela earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles and Blanche Lenoan and Kateryna Avram posted a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot. With the win at the top of the lineup, Vasilescu is now 2-0 in doubles play this season.

Cleveland State's lone singles win of the day came at the No. 3 spot, as Lenoan remained perfect on the season with a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 three-set victory over Miami (OH)'s Milana Lysova. With the win, Lenoan now has 47 career singles wins, and is just three wins shy of reaching the 50-win milestone.

The Vikings will return to action next Friday (February 12), when they travel to Toledo for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
