Polito Announces Incoming Class For 2021-22 Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's tennis head coach Frank Polito has announced his incoming class for the 2021-22 campaign, as the trio of Filippa Frogner (Oslo, Norway), Tereze Vevere (Riga, Latvia) and Oihane Vicario (Oion/Alaba, Spain) have all signed National Letters of Intent to attend Cleveland State University beginning next fall.

"I am really excited about the 2021 recruiting class," Polito said. "I feel like this could be one of the best freshmen classes we have had since I have been at Cleveland State. In addition to being good tennis players, all three are also great students and even better people, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Viking Family."

Filippa Frogner | Oslo, Norway
Frogner will join the Vikings after earning a No. 6 U18 ranking in Norway, while being part of the extended Junior National Team. Frogner has recorded several podium finishes in Norwegian Championship juniors events, including a pair of second place finishes and third place finishes at the Norwegian Championship.

In addition, Frogner has also won several Norway Cups in both singles and doubles, while also reaching two finals in Grand Prix Senior Tournaments.

Polito on Frogner: "I feel that Filippa has a big upside, as she played both tennis and soccer throughout her prep career, and has just recently devoted all of her time to tennis training which will allow her to grow her game exponentially. Filippa is my first recruit from Oslo, Norway, and I can't wait to start training her when she arrives in the fall."

Tereze Vevere | Riga, Latvia
Vevere will come to Cleveland State following a strong junior career in which she was a top-five player in Latvia in U14 and U16 and a top-20 player in Latvia in U18. Most recently, Vevere picked up the doubles title at the Latvian Championship in August of 2020, while she advanced to the singles quarterfinals of the ITA Tartu in January of the same year.

She has been a three-time semifinalist in doubles ITF at the Tallin G4 and Split G5, while also finishing as the singles runner-up in the Latvian U14 Championship.

Polito on Vevere: "I feel that Tereze can definitely be a contributor in the top part of the lineup for us. Her junior coach, who also worked with Klara Mrcela, speaks very highly of her and I'm excited to see her game evolve over the next few years. Tereze was my first commitment of the year, and I am looking forward to her arrival in Cleveland."

Oihane Vicario | Oion/Alaba, Spain
Vicario will join the Vikings as a five-time Statal Champion and a 2017 TTK National Tournament winner. Vicario has also been a five-time semifinalist in national tournaments, including the 2019 Mutua Madrid Open.

Polito on Vicario: "Oihane has a lot of tournament experience which will help her adjust to the collegiate game, and I look for her to challenge in the top half of our lineup right away. As a top-80 ranked player in Spain, Oihane is my first recruit from Spain during my time here at Cleveland State and we are happy to have her as part of the team."
