Vikings Pick Up Wins Against John Carroll & St. Francis (PA) To Begin 2020 Home Slate

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team posted a pair of wins over John Carroll and St. Francis (PA) Saturday, opening the 2020 home slate with a 2-0 record, and improving to 3-0 on the season.

· With her win at No. 3 singles against John Carroll, Blanche Lenoan now has 42 career singles wins, just eight wins shy of 50 career victories.
· Saturday's two wins kept the Vikings perfect on the season, as they are now 3-0 this spring.

The Vikings were able to pick up their first 7-0 sweep of the season Saturday morning, earning a 7-0 win over John Carroll to open their 14-match home slate.

Cleveland State swept the doubles matches against JCU, as Blanche Lenoan/Kateryna Avram and Gaby Schoenberg/Siân Payne both earned 6-0 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, while Klara Mrcela and Lara Prosenjak posted a 6-1 win at the top of the lineup.

The Vikings then gained a quick 3-0 lead in the match with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, as Payne and Schoenberg posted matching 6-0, 6-0 straight-set wins.

Cleveland State's clinching point came from Avram at the No. 6 spot then, as she earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory to give the Vikings their second straight win.

Cleveland State remained undefeated on the season with a 6-1 win over St. Francis (PA) in the second match of the doubleheader Saturday, staying perfect on the 2020 spring season.

For the third straight match, the Vikings picked up the early doubles point, as the No. 2 tandem of Lenoan and Avram earned a 6-3 win and SFU defaulted at the No. 3 spot.

After picking up a point at No. 6 singles by default, the Vikings extended their lead to 3-0 following a 6-0, 6-3 straight-set win from Avram at No. 5 singles. Avram now has a team-leading eight singles wins this season, and owns a perfect 3-0 mark this spring.

Cleveland State's clinching point came from Mrcela at the top of the lineup then, as she earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory to notch her seventh singles win of the year.
