Vikings Host Green Bay & Milwaukee To Begin #HLWTEN Play

CLEVELAND, Ohio – After playing a 14-match non-league slate, the Cleveland State women's tennis team will begin its nine-match Horizon League schedule this weekend, hosting Green Bay and Milwaukee in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings played their final non-league matches of the season, traveling to the state of Florida to take on FIU and Barry during their annual Spring Break Trip.

The Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion
Cleveland State will return to the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion to begin a three-match homestand this weekend, as the Vikings begin Horizon League play in the friendly confines of the MMTP. The Vikings have been calling the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion home for the last three seasons, and own a 19-7 overall record in the facility.

Vikings Selected Third In Preseason Poll
Earlier this season, Cleveland State was selected to finish third in the Horizon League Preseason poll, collecting 63 points to finish behind UIC and Youngstown State. Since the league began releasing preseason polls six years ago, the Vikings have now earned a top-three selection five times.

…Cleveland State In Horizon League Play
Over the last 15 seasons the Vikings have posted an overall record of 79-36 against Horizon League teams, including a program-best 8-1 record during the 2017 and 2016 seasons. Under head coach Brian Etzkin Cleveland State has won three regular season titles (2017, 2016, 2014), with all three coming over the last four years.

Golawska On The CSU Singles Wins List
Senior Aleksandra Golawska enters Horizon League play ranked ninth on the CSU Singles Wins List, owning 63 career victories. Golawska, who became the 10th Viking all-time to record 60 career wins earlier this season, is six wins shy of moving into eighth place on the wins list, and currently has an 11-11 record this year.

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
Brian Etzkin is in his 16th year at the helm of the Vikings, owning a 203-195 dual match record. During his tenure, Etzkin has guided Cleveland State to three Horizon League Regular Season titles and three Horizon League Championship match appearances.

Scouting The Phoenix
Green Bay enters Saturday's match with a 1-5 record this spring, picking up its lone win in a 4-3 decision over St. Norbert last time out.

This will be the 18th meeting between the two teams over the last 16 seasons, with Cleveland State owning a 15-2 advantage in the overall series. The Vikings enter Saturday's contest on a 15-match winstreak against the Phoenix. 

Scouting The Panthers
Milwaukee enters the weekend with a 4-10 overall record this spring, and will take on Youngstown State prior to Sunday's contest against the Vikings. The Panthers have picked up all four of their wins over the last four weeks, posting wins in four of their last six matches.

This will be the 18th meeting between the two teams under head coach Brian Etzkin, with the Vikings owning a 14-3 advantage in the overall series. Last year, Cleveland State captured a 4-3 victory over the Panthers.
