Cleveland State Wins Second Straight With 4-3 Victory At Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team won its second straight match Sunday afternoon, as the Vikings earned another dramatic 4-3 victory, this time over the Butler Bulldogs. The win improves Cleveland State to 2-3 overall this season.

For the third straight match the Vikings were able to get on the board early, picking up the doubles point after sweeping all three matches. At the top of the doubles lineup the duo of Isabella Spindler and Aleksandra Golawska earned a 6-4 win, while Victoria Bensimon and Morgan Nix earned a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot, and Mathilde Orange and Princess Gbadamosi cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Vikings were quickly able to add to their lead at the start of singles play then, as Spindler notched her team-high fourth win of the spring in a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles.

Butler then responded with wins at No. 2, No. 1, and No. 4 singles, giving the Bulldogs the 3-2 advantage with just two singles matches left on the court.

At No. 5 singles Golawska was able to even the match at 3-3 following a 6-3, 6-0 victory, leaving the deciding point up to Jana Schober and Grace Hyde at No. 6 singles.

Schober was able to pick up an easy 6-1 victory in the first set before falling in the second set, forcing a third and deciding set in which Schober cruised to a 6-3 win clinching the  match for the Vikings.

The Vikings will return home next weekend, hosting Bowling Green at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12 at Paramount Tennis Club in Westlake, Ohio.
