Vikings Pick Up Doubles Point Before Falling At West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Despite picking up the doubles point for the first time this season, the Cleveland State women's tennis team fell at West Virginia Friday evening, 6-1.

"We lost a tough match today against a quality West Virginia team," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "We played the best doubles that I have seen during my time at Cleveland State today, and we were rewarded with the first point of the match. We struggled during singles play though, and figured out that we need to work on playing the deuce point better moving forward. All-in-all, this was a good trip for us that gave us plenty of room for improvement over the next few weeks of the early season."

For the first time this season, the Vikings were able to pick up the doubles point, earning victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Cleveland State's No. 2 doubles team of Victoria Bensimon and Morgan Nix earned a 6-2 victory, while the doubles tandem of Princess Gbadamosi and Mathilde Orange recorded a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot.

Although the Vikings were able to get out to the early 1-0 lead, West Virginia responded by sweeping all six singles courts for the 6-1 victory.

Next up for the Vikings will be their first roadswing of the 2016 spring season, as they are set to travel to Northern Illinois (Saturday, February 6) and Butler (Sunday, February 7) next weekend.
