Vikings Close Out Fall Season At ITA Midwest Regional

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team wrapped up the 2015 fall season Friday, closing out play at the ITA Midwest Regional.

"Although we didn't have quite the weekend that we would have liked at regionals, I thought overall this was one of our strongest fall seasons over the past few years," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "We were definitely able to grow and improve throughout the fall season, and hopefully we will be able to pick up right where we left off during the spring. We were able to pick up a handful of singles wins against some quality opponents this weekend, including Mathilde having an awesome run in the qualifying singles draw."

The Vikings had two singles players and two doubles teams in action on the second day of the ITA Midwest Regional tournament.

Mathilde Orange's run in the qualifying singles bracket came to an end Friday, as she fell to Michigan State's Athena Truilloit, 6-1, 6-2. Orange, who picked up two wins yesterday, became the first Viking to advance to the third round of the qualifying singles draw over the past few years.

Princess Gbadamosi also played another consolation match Friday, picking up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Milica Tesic from DePaul. Gbadamosi finishes the fall season with a team-best 6-6 singles record.

Cleveland State was represented by two doubles teams in the main doubles bracket at the ITA Midwest Regional, with both teams dropping their opening round matches. The duo of Orange and Victoria Bensimon fell to a Youngstown State duo by a score of 8-7 (8), while the tandem of Gbadamosi and Morgan Nix fell to a Milwaukee team (8-6).

With the conclusion of the fall season, the Vikings will return to action after the New Year, opening up the spring season against Toledo on Friday, January 22.
