BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team wrapped up play at the UB Invitational Sunday, picking up four singles victories on the day.
"We had a great finish to the tournament today, although we didn't win any of the championships we were playing for, we were still able to play well overall and pick up a few wins," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "We had some tough playing conditions today with the wind, but as a whole, the team handled it very well and fought through. We got some quality wins from Princess, Mathilde, Victoria, and Aleksandra, and although she came up short today, Morgan will start getting her wins soon because she is right there with everyone she plays. Once again we made improvements throughout the entire tournament, and are definitely moving in the right direction this fall."
Victoria Bensimon and Aleksandra Golawska both picked up their second singles wins of the weekend Sunday, Bensimon posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Akron's Carla Flores, and Golawska earning a 6-3, 6-2 over Sarah Shashura of Duquesne.
Princess Gbadamosi picked up her first singles win of the UB Invitational, earning a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Duquesne's Kylie Isaacs, while Mathilde Orange notched her first win of the weekend in a 7-6 (6), 7-6 (2) decision over Niagara's Shannon Wong.
The Vikings will now take a week off from competition, and return to the courts at the ITA Midwest Regional on Thursday, October 22 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
