BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team began play at the UB Invitational Friday, playing two rounds of doubles action.
"We had an okay day of doubles play today – paced by Victoria and Katy who played a great tiebreak match to earn a spot in the championship," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "We are definitely making improvements week-to-week during the fall season, and each tournament we have been improving from day-to-day, making this one of our most successful fall seasons in years past. I'm excited to get back on the court tomorrow and see what else we can do."
The duo of Victoria Bensimon and Katy Quillin led the way for the Vikings on day one, advancing to the championship match of Flight C. After getting a bye in the first round, Bensimon and Quillin were able to battle for a 7-6 (4) victory in the semifinals against a Duquesne tandem. Bensimon and Quillin will now play in the championship match against another Duquesne doubles team tomorrow.
The Vikings were also able to post a victory in Flight A play, as Mathilde Orange and Morgan Nix earned a 6-2 win against Niagara in a consolation match.
