Gbadamosi & Nix Advance In Doubles Draw At Hoosier Classic

DOUBLES & SINGLES DRAWS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team began play at the Hoosier Classic Friday, with the doubles team of Princess Gbadamosi and Morgan Nix advancing to the semifinals of the Doubles draw.

"Overall I was so pumped with today's results, we are continuing to improve every single day and it is definitely showing on the court," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "We are playing at a tougher tournament this weekend, and although we might not have gotten all of the wins that we would have liked, we are competing and fighting until the end in every match."

Gbadamosi and Nix were easily able to put away their opponents in their first two matches of the doubles draw Friday, earning a 6-3 victory over a Marquette duo in the opening round and a 6-0 victory over a tough Indiana team in the quarterfinals. Gbadamosi and Nix will finish out play in the doubles draw tomorrow.

"Morgan and Princess played some awesome doubles today, picking up a huge win against a tough Indiana team to advance to the semifinals, and I can't wait to see what they do tomorrow," Polito said.

Mathlide Orange and Katy Quillin were the lone Vikings to pick up singles wins on the first day of the Hoosier Classic – Orange earning hers in Flight 2 and Quillin notching hers in Flight 5. Orange posted a 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 victory over Western Michigan's Melina Lyubomirova, while Quillin earned a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 win over Cincinnati's Samantha Perry. Quillin's victory marked the first of her collegiate career.

"It was good to see Katy pick up her first collegiate win today, she has been working hard in practice and improving every day, so it's good to see her get the results she is hoping for," Polito said.

Cleveland State also got a win out from the doubles team of Victoria Bensimon and Aleksandra Golawska, as they earned a 6-1 victory in their opening round match, before falling in the quarterfinals.

"I'm excited to see what we can do tomorrow – we are definitely ahead of where we were last year at this point in the season – and as long as we continue to work hard during every match, I think we can have another successful day on the courts," Polito said.

The Vikings will continue play at the Hoosier Classic tomorrow (Saturday, September 26), with one round of singles and two rounds of doubles beginning at 10:00 a.m.
