AKRON, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team concluded play at the Akron Shootout Sunday, playing a round of doubles against UMBC and a round of singles against Akron.
"I thought we fought hard on all six courts in singles and all three courts in doubles today, we just didn't get the results that we would have liked," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "Princess played a solid match at No. 1 singles for us, and we were able to push three other singles matches to three sets, but came up just short. Overall this was a good first tournament for us, and definitely showed us what we need to focus on moving forward."
Junior Princess Gbadamosi was the lone Viking to pick up a win on the final day of the tournament, earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Akron's Karalina Maksimava at No. 1 singles. Gbadamosi finished the weekend with a team-best 2-1 singles record.
The Vikings will continue their fall season next weekend, competing at the Indiana Tournament in Bloomington, Indiana (Friday, September 15 – Sunday, September 27).
