CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team recorded its second sweep on the spring season Saturday afternoon, defeating Green Bay, 7-0. The Vikings now stand at 8-11 overall and 4-1 in Horizon League play.

"This was a great team win today, everyone really earned their points and did a great job of keeping the momentum going throughout the entire match," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We have been playing some great doubles lately, and that was no different today. I thought it was fun to watch Ellen and Alex Power play at the top of the doubles lineup and get the clinching doubles win for us."

The Vikings were able to get the early 1-0 lead after picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 3 doubles team of Kara Sherwood and Victoria Bensimon made quick work of the Phoenix with an 8-0 victory, while Alex Power and Ellen Folkers earned a convincing 8-2 win at the top of the lineup.

Princess Gbadamosi picked up the first singles win of the day, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles – marking her team-leading 17th win of the season. Sherwood then gave CSU a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Sherwood's victory against the Phoenix gave her 71 career singles wins, and ties her for third all-time on the CSU singles wins list.

CSU's clinching point came from Bensimon at No. 6 singles, as she earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Mathilde Orange (6-2, 6-2) and Lauren Golick (6-3, 6-1) quickly followed with wins at No. 4 and No. 1 singles, respectively.

"Everyone took care of business in singles today, we were able to fight for six straight-set wins, and really didn't let Green Bay get into any of the matches. We had great crowd support today, it was awesome having some of the other student-athletes come out and cheer on the Vikings, it definitely helped us get the 7-0 victory," Etzkin said.

The Vikings will now host Milwaukee tomorrow (Sunday, April 13) in a crucial Horizon League contest. As of Saturday evening, the match will be played outdoors at the Malaga Tennis Center on the CSU Campus beginning at 10:00 a.m. Check back to CSUVikings.com for any location updates.
