NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Cleveland State women's tennis team rounded out their annual Spring Break trip Thursday afternoon, dropping a close 4-3 match at Stephen F. Austin.

"This was another good, competitive match for us, we continue to improve in doubles and singles play, but we are all getting tired of the close losses that we keep having," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "In singles, we had some good matches from lower in the lineup, including everywhere from No. 3 to No. 8 – I wish we could count the matches at No. 7 and No. 8, but unfortunately we can't. It was good to see Princess get a win in front of a bit of a home crowd, and moving forward we are going to band together and rise up at the end of the season and get these close matches."

CSU's three points came from three singles wins, including one from Kara Sherwood who finished the week with a 3-0 singles mark. Sherwood's victory came at No. 3 singles, as she picked up a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 victory, her team-leading 66th of her career.

Cleveland State's second point came from Princess Gbadamosi, who now has a team-best 13 singles wins this season. Gbadamosi came out on top of a 6-2, 7-6 (4) decision at No. 5 singles, finishing the Texas roadswing with a 2-1 singles mark.

Alex Power, who played in just her fifth singles match of the spring and the first of the roadswing, picked up CSU's final victory at No. 6 singles. Power posted a 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory, her first of the season after having off-season surgery.

The Vikings will now have a week off from competition, returning to the courts on Sunday, March 23 against Wright State. This will be CSU's first Horizon League matchup of the season and is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Paramount Tennis Club.
