CLEVELAND - Marianne Lionell, Kirsty McKechnie and Samantha Jones each grabbed a victory as the Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team fell to Eastern Michigan, 165-72, at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium on Saturday. The loss drops the Vikings to 3-3 on the season.
"Eastern Michigan's a very good team," head coach Mike Lehto said. "They don't have a lot of top end talent like some of the other schools we face have, but they have a lot of depth. That said, we're very pleased with how we've been swimming for this point in the season."
Lionell won the 50 freestyle, posting a time of 24.25, and finished second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.10. McKechnie took first in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 2:10.26, and was second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:41.66. Jones claimed her victory in the 200 backstroke in 2:07.74, and was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.80.
"The girls have a very positive attitude, and that's helping them swim fast," Lehto said. "Every week, someone new is moving up in the league rankings, and it's always good to see others moving up. We know we've got some good talent, now we're starting to add a little bit of depth."
The Vikings will have 10 days to prepare for their next meet on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Ohio State.
