Women's Swimming Knocks Off Youngstown State

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State took 10 of the 13 events on their way to a 129-107 win over Youngstown State Wednesday evening at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium. Marianne Lionell had three wins for Cleveland State, while Kirsty McKechnie and Samantha Jones each had a pair of wins.

Lionell claimed wins in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. She posted a time of 24.50 in the 50 free, then recorded a 53.98 time in the 100 freestyle. The freshman from Sweden capped off her evening with a win in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:07.16.

After the Vikings led off the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay in 4:14.27, McKechnie recorded the first of her two wins, claiming victory in the 1000 freestyle in 10:51.75. She would later win the 500 freestyle in 5:22.77. Jones would win the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. She posted a time of 2:13.81 in the IM, then finished in 59.46 in the butterfly.

Tina Abbott won the 200 freestyle for the Vikings, finishing in 2:02.54, while Wendy Peel added the 10th and final win for CSU in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.08.

The Vikings return to the pool on Sat., Jan. 24, when they host Niagara the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium. Saturday is also Senior Day to honor the Viking seniors from both the men's and the women's teams.
