FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Viking women's swim team placed third at a five-event Holiday Invitational, held Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008 at Pine Crest School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

The invitational was contested as a relay meet, with each team having the option to swim two teams per event to score points. The Vikings elected to put one relay team in each event, and saw some decent results, as two of CSU's relay teams managed second place finishes.

Featured in the invitational and competing against the CSU women were Cortland and New York University.

"Our purpose was to get good hard training in," assistant coach Andrew Hancock said, "To perform this well is very good to see."

Kristine Bunker was the standout performer of the day as she swam a great leg of the 200 meter butterfly relay in leading her team to a second place finish in that event (2:15.07). The Vikings also scored a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke relay (2:44.75), and a third place finish in the 500 meter medley relay (5:46.40).

The Vikings make the trip to Florida every year for winter training, and have really been making progress in practice throughout the trip, which continues throughout the week.

"Overall for the women, Lesley Jones has really stepped up her training," Hancock said, "She is really pushing herself and her teammates hard as she works toward having a good senior year."

CSU will continue training hard in Florida until this Thursday, Jan. 10.

The Vikings will return to action this Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 in a quad meet at home against Canisius, Xavier, and Duquesne, which will begin at 11:00 a.m. EST at the Busbey Natatorium.
