Cleveland State University swimming & diving added Giavanna Cappabianca from Hudson, Ohio. Cappabianca is a graduate transfer from the University of Akron. She swam for Hudson High School and the Hudson Explores Aquatic Team.
In her freshman year at Akron, she placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke and eleventh in the 200-yard IM. During her junior campaign, she was second in the 200-yard breaststroke and third in the 400-yard IM. This past season, Cappabianca placed fourth in the 400-yard IM, sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke, and eighth in the 200-yard IM.
"I chose Cleveland State for its strong and successful OTD program with multiple clinical opportunities. Additionally, for the sense of family, I got from the team as well as having the opportunity to work with and be coached by great coaches,"
Cappabianca was a four-time state qualifier and nine-time top-eight medalist at the state championships. She was a four-time First Team All-Conference honoree with five records at Hudson. Cappabianca was a nine-time All-American honoree and USA Swimming Senior and Junior National qualifier. In addition, she was a finalist in the 50-yard breaststroke at the Arena Pro Swim Series in 2015 and took first place in the 200-yard IM at the USA Swimming Futures Championships.
In the classroom, she was part of the national honors society and graduated with Magna Cum Laude from Hudson High School. At the University of Akron, she was on the Dean's List six times and named to the MAC All-Academic Team three times.
