Cleveland State Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Fifth at #HLSD Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cleveland State finished the 2024 Horizon League Championships in fifth place with 463.5 points.

Oakland won their 11th straight #HLSD Championship with 909.5 points, Milwaukee was second with 690.5 points, and IUPUI was third with 527.5 points.

"Tonight was our best session because we had fun and focused on our team and our family," said coach Burandt. "Our seniors wrapped up incredible careers and our freshman learned the intensity of this championship meet. We have so much to be proud of, to celebrate, and to analyze. But for now, we are going to eat one last meal as a team with our families."

The final day started with the 1650-yard freestyle with Madison Taker taking ninth place with a time of 17:22.43. Olivia Leonard placed 12th with a time of 17:46.59 and Mackenzie Lipnick was 15th with a time of 17:54.25.

Cleveland State had three in the A-final of the 200-yard backstroke with Grace Chelf (2:03.55) in fifth, Alaina Brown (2:03.64) in sixth, and Kayla Brock (2:04.84) in eighth. Audrey Butcher won the B-final after touching in 2:04.81.

Ana Sofia Sousa finished as the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle as the senior put up the fourth-fastest time in program history, 50.73. Haley Palmer took tenth after touching in 52.26.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Kellsie Krisch came in second after clocking the seventh-fastest time in program history, 2:19.21.

Tess Walsh touched the wall in 2:06.07 of the 200-yard butterfly to come in third. In eighth was Madison Taker with a time of 2:10.07. Valentina Rengifo placed 16th after clocking a 2:13.10.

The Vikings capped off the championship with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Grace Chelf, Ana Sofia Sousa, Haley Palmer, and Reagan St. Clair clocked a 3:26.10.
