Cleveland State Women's Swimming & Diving Remain in Fifth After Day Three of HL Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Cleveland State remained in fifth place with one day remaining at the 2023 Horizon League Championships.

"Tonight is what we have trained for all season," said head coach Hannah Burandt. "We showed our true Viking spirit, and it came through in our races and presence on deck. I'm so proud of our entire team! It was a special night, and tomorrow is where we shine!"

Ellie Mckibbin opened the third night with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in a season-best time of 55.61. Madison Taker placed 13th in the event.

In the 400-yard IM, Valentina Rengifo came in 11th, Olivia Leonard in 12th, and Mackenzie Lipnick in 16th.

Ana Sofia Sousa finished as the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking the third-fastest time in program history, 1:49.72. Sousa's time was a CSCAA B-cut. In the B-final, Rachel Contich won with a time of 1:52.16.

Grace Butcher came in eighth place during the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in a season-best time of 1:05.96.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Grace Chelf placed tenth, Caroline Hughes one-spot back, and Holly White in 14th.

The Vikings ended the evening with a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay as Chelf, Butcher, Mckibbin, and Sousa put up a time of 3:49.85.
